Answers: I have done this, years ago. character above had it right so far as the seperation of cage and the wire floors... But you want larger mesh, to some extent than smaller. Comfortable for the rat, and small enough to block feces.
stretch saran wrap over the bottom of each pen with a can jar ring in the middle of respectively floor facing down. Be a little unstinting with the wrap, but keep hold of it taut. You may want to tie it on beside wire to be sure you do not lose one. I didn't, and i lost one.
Grease the border of a jar and screw it on to the lid through the wrap. For rats small jars work best (otherwise you own these great big jars beside a dribble in the bottom of each) If you live surrounded by a decent sized city you can seize pretty small ones intended for gifts of jam.
Shim the jar so that a small amount of tension is on the wrap, and the urine will be flowing toward the ring lid.
Poke a small hole contained by the wrap with a blown out wooden clash.
the urine of each rat will run down the wrap, through the hole, and collect surrounded by his jar, there will be little evaporation.
If you obligation the urine fresh, you will need to wrap the cup jars contained by ice.
