Yes, you really do have to drink that gross liquid stuff. Otherwise, even if you think you are cleaned out, you probably aren't, and then you are wasting the $$ you are spending on the colonoscopy.
I managed to drink all of it, and they said I had a clean colon. Hubby didn't, and they said he had bad preparation and it was harder.

You do need to finish because if there is any fecal matter present in your colon, the doctors may not be able to see any cancerous or precancerous growths because the fecal matter will obscure the growths.
Bon apetite. Finish the GoLytely (the guy who named this had a macabre sense of humor). You don't want to take a chance on an inadequate prep and having to do it all over again.

I only drank two-thirds of that crap. But I stopped eating the day before I was supposed to because I knew I couldn't swallow that stuff. Next time, I plan to stop halfway through and to stop eating early.
I also discovered that you can drink that stuff more slowly and you don't have to drink 8 oz because you will vomit. You can just chug 4 oz. Always have a chaser such as soda water at hand.
What you do is you take a few glass vials and catch some you know what in them. If there is no color change, then you can stop. It will be yellow bile without any small solid pieces, you can stop.
What I did was I took in my last vial and showed it to the doctor. He will ask you if you drank all that stuff because people always cheat. I showed him the vial and told him if it wasn't clear enough to let me know and we wouldn't proceed.
The pictures came out perfectly. There was nothing in me.
The worst part of the process is that drink.
