ummm.... u phrased the question really broad base ....... like what do u expect is insulin better ?? for a type 1 or type 2 Dm.. and if it's for type 2 .. why is ur sugar not controlled .. ???
but anywayz i will give u a original outlook ... type 1 dm that is if u be diagnosed very childish u have no option other than insulin ....
if ur type 2 next u have be put on insulin becuz ur sugar level is deeply high .... near proper diet control and exercise u could bring down ur sugar levels when ur MD can switch u over to OHA ( oral hypoglycemic agents )
and furthermore here are different types of insulin like u can divide them from where on earth u get it ( eg : porcine insulin is get from pigs ) or by the duration of action ( eg : ultralente act pretty fast and last for short time ) or by the mode in which u provide ( nowadays they enjoy painless delivery system )
phew !! and to include insulin can also be given for people lacking DM ... for example for hyperkalemia ( increased pottasium ) but that is usually surrounded by a ICU setup .... or u could have taken it for body building surrounded by which case i would strictly alert u against it

Very obese individuals are insulin resistant. For them Biguanides are better.
Not for type I diabetics.
The thing more or less insulin is that it's the only entity that does exactly what insulin does. Other medications work contained by different ways, and they only work if the individual is already producing insulin. If they can't, they need to inject it because no amount of pills will work.
