DECREASED libido while taken ZOLOFT?
Answer:
Yes it happens with a lot of SSRI's. I personally did not experience it with Zoloft, because the drug did not work for me, but I went through the gauntlet of the SSRI's, Prozac, Wellbutrin, Effexor, Zoloft, Paxil, Serzone.
The only one that did work and I took for years was Prozac and I did have the same symptoms you are describing - I hated it. I hated it so much I tried to stop taking the drug dozens of times, only to realize that I needed it too badly, and I had to live with the side effects.
Then I (by chance) met up with a doctor that recommend I try something new - I was resistant - as you can imagine from the list I wrote above, and the gestation period for the drugs to wean off of and to take effect I really wasn't eager to try if, but I tried Lexapro and of ALL of the side effects went away.
I'm not an MD, and I don't know what's going to happen with you, but it is worth your while to try EVERY ONE of these until you find the one that is best for you (best effect with the least side effect). I have no idea which one that will be, and it's going to take time. Try to be patient with it - I know it's hard to be patient. Good luck.
Like Dave said most SSRIs will cause that..Im on Effexor and it was a real problem, Im on Viagra and it works everytime, it sucks that I have to use Viagra to have sex but its either that or be depressed so..take your pick but Im happy with my choice.
SSRI's cause decrease libido. Also, do not stop taking this medicine abruptly. You can have withdrawal side effects if you quit this medicine without weening yourself off. Talk to your doctor about changing your prescription.
