Also relate it to things that you know, for example you know how big a football pasture is just think so many of those for your distance or enunciate you know exacly how long a shcool bus is try imagining so masses school buses to that distance
by measure.
if you are talking nearly bigger distances you can do so by using tall landmark. if you know how tall a high point is you can measure how heaps degrees a column from you to the top of the landmark is. once you hold done that you can calculate the distance to the intent.
another option for even larger distances is using a map and measure the distance on the map.
so first you have to guess and after you will have to calculate to see if you are right.
