Yes, they do exist. My friend's sibling was a raw hermaphrodite. What happens is, once the child mature, s/he can choose which gender they will be, and a surgical intervention will remove the surplus genitalia. The condition is impressively real and several cases own been discovered within the field of international athletics. Esp. among Russian team.
No, they are called pseudohermaphrodites, as they are not truely both manly and female. they are any male or feminine and have ambiguous genitalia. Often what happen is either a masculine produces low amounts of testosterone and masculinization is incomplete, or a female is exposed to androgens and develops the ambiguous genitalia. There are also males next to androgen insensitivity that develop as phenotypically feminine yet are genetically mannish.

I asked my biology mentor (Dr. Gustavo Arosemena, Director of special investigations in Panama, and a doctor within biology) he says that within are only pseudo-hermaphrodites and that in attendance hasn't been a shield of a human being beside both genitalia being functional.
