Is it possible to strangle yourself to departure next to your own stripped hand?

I'm sorry to ask such a morbid question - a colleague suggested it have been done by someone he know of, and I questioned whether this be indeed possible? Any answers much appreciated.

Answers:    No. You would pass out and release your grip up to that time you died.
I think it would physically be possible as you could crush your windpipe. Whether or not you could pshychologically bring yourself to do it I don't know.
