Sleeping gas for surgery?

I'm having my tonsils out on friday and they said they will get me fall asleep by breathing contained by a sleeping gas cuz im scared of needles. I be wondering if anyone here ever got put to sleep from breathing surrounded by sleeping gas and what it feels similar to when ur breathing it. Like to you get dizzy or do you consistency sleepy? What happens if you simply decide to try to hold on to your eyes open. Thanks for helping me out.
