Medical billing and coding?
Answer:
Median annual earnings of medical records and health information technicians were $25,590 in 2004. The middle 50 percent earned between $20,650 and $32,990. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $17,720, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $41,760.
Median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of medical records and health information technicians in 2004 were as follows:
General medical and surgical hospitals $26,640
Nursing care facilities $26,330
Outpatient care centers $23,870
Offices of physicians $22,130
Paul Ding gave you the median wages. But it will depend more on where you live. I do medical coding in a medical billing office and I was hired out of school in the customer service area for $12/hr in the Atlanta suburbs. After a while in CS, I was transferred to coding where I got a $1/hr raise. After a year, another $1/hr raise. When I pass my AAPC certification exam, there will be another $1/hr raise.
I know that $1/hr doesn't sound like a lot, but bear in mind that each $1/hr equals over $2000/year.
