I originally thought that I don`t know since the brain would not die until the blood supply was cut sour, therefore in that would be some conciousness. but then realised that when the spinal cord is severed the 'conciousness' is instantly cut..??

Have thought of a approach you might sort this out. With the head severed from the body, the cranial nerves that control movement surrounded by the muscles of the face should still work as long as the cut is low plenty below the brainstem. Cutting through the spinal cord shouldn't affect this.
If my head be cut off and I be still alert I reckon that I would be making some pretty intense facial expressions. Speech would not be possible as there would be no voluble cord action. If I be unconscious I would probably not be doing anything. I'm not volunteering myself, but subsequent time you cut somebody's head bad see if you can get them to verbs a face at you.

i wouldn't regard so because it would sever several major arteries and obviously the spinal cord. there would be no blood "pumped" into the brain cause instant death although several smaller nerves may be helpful causing twitches that brand name them to still appear to be alive (happens a lot beside people who are shot contained by the head as well).
but as copious history buffs know, the guillotine hardly ever severed head "quickly and cleanly". masses times they had to do it several times contained by order for the cranium to sever. in that baggage, i do imagine here were moments of spasm.
