Phlebotomy (taking venous blood via a needle) is part of a art in Medical Technology. All med tech students will involve to master the "art" of drawing blood. How much this skill is needed and used in the work place then depends on where you work and possibly what shift you work. It will not be the through focus of the job though. It is a short time ago something your niece will have to receive herself do --- most people do not savour drawing blood -- look at it as a necessary evil of sorts on your bearing to a great career. Believe me, I insufferable learning to draw and still do not savour it, but I am proficient. As for injections -- that's nursing - thankfully. Best wishes for your niece.
I am conservatory to be a medical technologist right now. Injecting medication is not part of the position, but learning how to lift blood samples (phlebotomy) is required to be a MT.
I enjoy one semester left within Medical Technology. I've worked as a Lab. Assistant for 5 years. Happy to hear about your niece self interested! Your niece will not ever have to inject medication into patients. I don't recall it self in the MT's chore description. As far phlebotomy goes, abundant of us undergo the idea of "I don't want to draw blood because I'm afraid". Please tell her it isn't adjectives that bad and sometimes she may be asked to do it. I remember I be so nervous the first time I have to draw blood but after that it got soooo much easier. Tell her not to avoid medical technology lately because she is afraid on phlebotomy. Phlebotomy is such a small part of the full thing! Please convey her my best and tell her she's not the first to discern this way and patently won't be the last (ha ha)! Mostly anything contained by the medical field have to do with blood sometime. Why would she be afraid of injecting meds? Yes, you would definately own to take blood sample & inject, since it will part of your career.
