Can the human body digest carbohydrates. simple or complex. is it true that humanity lacks the enzyme?

i read somewhere that humans dont posses the enzyme to break down carbs and that its really a malicious microbes that feeds on it and breaks it down harm the body. ?? sounded crazy cuz it suggested eliminating carbs from diet. and to me that sempt crazy, but i am embark on to the possiblities.
