What are surgeons' responsiblities/duties besides surgeries?

I know that shows like Grey's Anatomy portrays them do practially everything agreed to medicine. But besides surgeries, consultations and follow ups, would their post-op patients be lower than their care or an intensivist at the surgical ICU? If the long-suffering goes into shock and arythmia or anything of that quality, would the surgeon be called upon regardless if he/she is within the vicinity? And do they run codes(blue)?

Answer:
Please do not look at storybook television dramas for meticulousness in pills.

Surgeons see patients in their office for assessments pre-op, for post-op care, and for consultations. Not every stop by leads to surgery.

They enjoy to round on their patients in the hospital. They own to deal near phone calls from patients next to questions. They see other doctors' patients who may enjoy surgical issues, even if they are admitted for something else.

How the ICU runs is different at edifferent hospitals, but the surgeon cannot forget his patient, and will still see him, even if an intensivist is "running the show".

Codes are run by the best trained party who is there. The surgeon will be notify of the event, but nobody is going to wait for him/her to show up earlier getting out the paddles.
Surgeons spend more time filling out insurance forms than doing surgery. I wouldn't recommend it.
i hear that de surgeons also should stabilise de patients before taking looking for an surgery
Safety of the tolerant before during and after surgery is the responsibility of the surgeon. Anesthesiologist help him a lot surrounded by this. Specialists other than surgeons may be summoned as and when needed.
