Is it true that Japanese are missing an enzyme thus preventing them from ever getting a hang down over?

Answer:
No, many folks of Asian descent get an instant negative response to alcohol (the symptoms enjoy been described open-handed of like getting a hangover immediately). In individuals of Asian descent, there is a lofty incidence of a deficiency within the breakdown of alcohol, which means they don't metabolize alcohol correctly. The finicky enzyme that is imperfect is an aldehyde dehydrogenase (aldehyde dehydrogenase 2, ALDH2) and instead of the normal breakdown of ethanol using ALDH1, beside ALDH2, ethanol is converted to an aldehyde. The conversion to an aldehyde is bad because of the superior toxicity levels of the aldehyde and the resulting headache, stomach upset, dizziness and flushing (redness) that result. So, typically, people of Asian descent are negatively affected by alcohol consumption and are not hangover-immune.
WTF??
I haven't hear that, hang over's are usually cause by dehydration. But i have hear that japanese and some native americans hold a lower tolerence to alcohol.
no
no. Hangovers are essentially a dehydration syndrome.

Asian and other culture do lack a metabolite that make there skin become red when they drink.
Interesting. I have not heard of this. I know that Asians are repeatedly missing the enzyme for milk digestion (lactase). And as someone said, Native Americans are missing an enzyme for alcohol digestion (alcohol dehydrogenase). I don't think this prevents hangover though. It just make them get drunk faster.

OK, the above poster pace me to it, but aldehyde dehydrogenase is the culprit. It appears that Japanese and Chinese may actually own this enzyme, whereas other Asians and other ethnicities do not. Here is a link next to more info:
I freaking wish this be the case, afterwards I could drink until I drop...that is if I did in actual fact start drinking a lot. Of course folks can argue since I am not Japanese, but in certainty Korean that this does not pertain to me, but it does. Japanese came from the Korean peninsula a long, long time ago.

As lots above me have said, we do deficit the ability to metabolize alcohol properly, but hang-over have a direct correlation to dehydration, and we can wake up next to hangovers, it in general depends on how much water you drink formerly you go to sleep within a drunken state. Because I can wake up short a hangover as long as I remember to drink at least 2 eyeglasses of water in the past sleep.
