How do the ribs work?
Answers: The costovertebral joint occur between the ribs and the vertebrae. It is a synovial plane joint.
The costovertebral pooled has 2 components that articulate next to the vertebral column: the heads of the ribs and the costotransverse mutual. The head of respectively rib articulates with the superior facet of one and the same vertebral body and the inferior facet of the superior vertebrae, along with the intervertebral disc to be precise in between.
There are 2 ligaments that relief connect and support this part of the mutual, which are the radiate and intra-articular ligaments. The costotransverse joint is the articulation of the tubercle and the transverse process of like peas in a pod vertebrae. The ligaments that strengthen this joint are the lateral and superior costotransverse ligaments.
The vertebral column doesn't do much except provide strength and support for the moving ribs, which act similar to the spines in a set of bellows.
Hope that help.
