Medical math calculation?

Im practicing medical math calculations, specifically doses etc. If for example you have to give 20mg of a medication and the concentration of that medication is 200mg/20ml. how would you shift about figure it out

Answers:    There are several ways to do it, and one such way is to use this equation:

Desired/Have x Volume = volume to administer

In your problem, you HAVE 200 mg surrounded by 20 mL

You DESIRE to give 20 mg

So,

(20 mg)/(200 mg) x 20 mL

400/200 = 2 mL

So, you would draw up 2 mL of the medication and administer it.

There are other ways to do this, but this is one such process.

Another way to do it, is to set up a ratio/proportion problem

If nearby are 200 mg of the drug in 20 mL of solution, how much solution would be needed for one and only 20 mg. So you set it up like this

200 mg/20 mL = 20 mg/x mL

Here, x refers to the unknown volume of drug. So, presently you would cross multiply to come up with:

200(x) = 20(20)

200(x) = 400

x = 400/200 = 2 mL (same answer as the first method).

I hope that help. Let me know if I can help any further. john_r820@YAH00.com
cross multiply:

20mg X 20ml/200mg = 2ml
Okay I'm going to try to transmit you how to do this so you can understand. You will cross multiply.

Put the 200mg where on earth the A is. 20ml where the B is. 20mg where on earth the C is and an X where the D is. Now solve for X.

A C 200mg 20mg
-- = -- -------- = ---------
B D 20ml X

AD=BC (200mg)(X)=(20ml)(20mg)

200X=400 200X=400 400
------ = ----- X= ------ X=2ml
200 200 200

Hope that help! sorry it wont let me space it out!
? ml= 20 ml / 200mg x 20 mg/1

if you set your problem up approaching this it's so easy. start next to determining what you're looking for in the covering how many ml's to supply. your top # should always clash what you need, later fix them so that the other stuff like mg, g, min, hrs..anything will cancel out. and adjectives you have departed is ml. in this casing the answer is 2 mls. look up dimensional analysis..there a book and that is to say the format we use in nrsg conservatory. you put 20 ml over 200mg multiply by 20 mg over 2..can t make it look close to what Im talking in the order of
