Rule of thumb for figure out time of annihilation by body temp.?

ive been trying to write a story something like a murder, and want to establish a timeline between the time of the murder and time of when the coroner does a liver temp reading. i know that there is a unsophisticated rule of thumb for calculating this, but i dont remember what it is.


Answers:    drops 1 deg F per hr after death.
unless the corpse is frozen or contained by high grill like a metal box contained by the sun.
Temp drops about 1 point per hr after death.
