There are different drugs to prevent/treat nausea and vomiting, and they work by different mechanisms. Nausea is a complicated subject.
Some work contained by the brain, and there are two different places - the chemoreceptor trigger zone, contained contained by the area postrema on the floor of the IV ventricle, and the vomiting center, located within the dorsolateral border of the reticular formation of the medulla. Each of these areas has assorted receptors and neurotransmitters that are involved in the total nausea and vomiting thing. Medications block the receptors surrounded by the brain.
There are also receptors in the gut, and some medication act on those.
When we own people who throw up after anesthesia, it sometimes take 4 or 5 different medications to help out them feel better. Some drugs work very well for some people, and other drugs work for other relations.
