The count reflects how masses red cells are floating around within the liquid factor of blood (the plasma). The are decreased contained by one form of anemia. They can be relatively raised if the gooey portion is depleted such as in dehydration and they can be really raised within conditions where the bone marrow is making too masses (polycythemia/erythrocytosis). Also hypoxemia (low oxygen) or living in a dignified altitude causes more red cell to be made to give the body more oxygen (red cell only fetch oxygen). Some tumors secrete a hormone that cause RBCs to increase (eythropoietin); also possibly some kidney problems. You need to ask your MD almost this.
There is always the possibility of lab error (clotted specimen) etc. Any unexpected should be repeated.
