Well please do talk beside your dr (or pharmacist) about the possible side effects of xanax. The medication is one of the benzo's (benzodiazepene sp?), considered a 'mild' tranquilizer as defiant a major tranquilizer also agreed as antipsychotics which include haldol and seroquel. Other medications surrounded by the benzo family include ativan, which I used to pocket, valium and klonopin. Those in the benzo category including xanax are terribly physically addictive and should Not be stopped abruptly and one and only ceased (or lowered) beneath the direction of one's physician.
For anxiety, a safer medication may be one of the antidepressants such as the ssri (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) prozac, zoloft or paxil. The ssri's take roughly speaking 4-6 weeks to notice a difference though. Effexor is another antidepressant but not sure if that's an ssri or not. I if truth be told take prozac weekly, the time released prozac, and it really help my anxiety and depression. I now also cart seroquel at nite in a small dosage to give a hand me to sleep since the prozac causes insomnia which really isn't that exceptional. My psychiatrist (and best to go to one as unwilling family dr since they're not nearly as knowledgable just about treating those with mental disorders) have taken me off of the benzo ativan and switched me to seroquel. It works on the neurotransmitter, dopamine, which can also play a role surrounded by those with ocd (obsessive-compulsive-disorder... which I also enjoy.

Xanax is excellant help for anxiety ,and especially if U enjoy phobias like misgivings of hights or flying.It helps stop madness attacks. xanax started my active energy again I was panic with anxiety roughly.Give it a chance.Your not alone.
It's an anti anxiety medication. It will relax and in control you. I had a hysterics attack once, and was given a 1 mg pill, WOW! Be diligent though, it's addictive.
