Medical Student URGENT!?
Answer:
as a med student, no you don't get paid. I am not sure about when you start your residency. If you do get paid, it isn't very much. You will have to hold some type of legal status, either citizenship, student visa, or something. It will probably not help in your visa application to discuss your plans to enter a particular field. It may help later if you apply for a work visa. You local consulate should be able to help advise you better on this.
Now, as for the tacky, rude, and tasteless responses some people have sent you, dis regard them. You may have come here illegally, but you are working and trying to set that straight. They don't realize that MANY MANY people who are citizens of other countries study medicine here already. As for the comment about mooching off of taxpayers here?? They simply don't realize that you can't get public assistance without a SSN, and you can't get a SSN unless you are legal. Sadly, it is the new "in vogue" thing to hate immigrants these days, since it has become politically incorrect to hate Jews, blacks, Japanese, and all the other previous victims of bigotry and hatred. Sorry you have had to endure people and comments like that. Keep your chin up, work hard, and you will do fine. Do address the visa or citizenship issue as soon as possible. It will help your progress and gives you good reason to tell the bigots to kiss your behind. Good Luck kid.

Is this question for real?? Illegal Immigrant 'eh? Go study in your country of birth and be of use to the medical profession there.
first of all, medical students do NOT get paid. interns and residents get paid, but students don't. and, yes, you need a social security number to apply to college and beyond. you also need all your standardized tests, which all require your social security number, as well.
i'm not sure i understand this... you're 16 and illegal, but have some expectation of becoming legal by age 24. you don't know anything about post-secondary education, or about medicine (if you did, you wouldn't have asked this question) you don't know if being illegal will 'interfere' with your studies? it surely will 'interfere'. and, as far as your idea of telling the govt you are 'about to enter medical school'... that's a fiction. it's not going to happen. understand me, if you become legal, and work, very, very hard, you MAY enter medical school, however, as an illegal, you don't have a snowball's chance in hell. and, to be honest, you shouldn't. i've had friends who were born here, studied hard, got top grades and top scores, and still had to go to medical school in spain, in england, in the faulkland islands, even in guadalajara. why would you even think that you should get precedence over someone like that, as an illegal? is it just naivete, or is it the overwhelming sense of entitlement that illegals have these days?.. they think that they deserve more than everyone else, and more than those who are legitimate citizens!
and, btw, you posted this twice, in quick succession so this is a cut and paste of my post in the other (identical) question
No you don't get paid as a medical student. You pay to be a medical student.
Yes you need a SSN as there are numerous background checks.
What's keeping you from becoming legal before at 24? Just going to live off taxpayers money for another 8 years?
My prognosis is that you have less than 6 months until your deportation hearing.
Yes you will need a ssn to go to college. You will soon find that you need one to do anything. If you want to go to medical school, you need to become a U.S. citizen first and the sooner you do it the better. Medical school is very hard and the competition is unbelievable, that said if you are willing to work hard it's not impossible.as the other person said(rudely I might add) have you put any thought of going to medical school in your home land then transferring over here?
It will improve your odds and make citizenship here easier to get not to mention legal.
Go back to your country and quit wasting my parent's tax money! Illegal people like you annoy the hell out of me. There are people who have been waiting 10+ years to come to the United States LEGALLY...but I guess you think you are just too good to follow the system. I bet you like mooching off other people's hard earned money, huh?
Like someone was saying, illegals should not, and will never, be chosen over citizens. If you are asking these questions about needing a SS # and all, I don't think you will make it to medical school anyway.
After you get your citizenship, everything is good to go. If you have a student visa you're good to go too.
