Only if trained to do so. I could go stern into a residency program and learn to do surgerical procedures, but I hold more sense than that.
We CAN place central lines, arterial lines, tunneled epidural catheters, and minor things resembling that. Some anesthesiologists do endoscopy of the epidural space, vertebroplasty, nerve ablations and other pain-related surgical procedures, but they hold training to do that, and have to get hold of special privileges from thier hospital to do it.
I went into anesthesia so I could bring all the fun of the OR minus the tediousness of if truth be told having to DO the procedures! (And spawn rounds, and see people within an office, and pinch care of rehab, etc. etc. etc.)
From a license standpoint, any doctor can do anything medical. From a hospital privileges, not getting yourself sued, common sense standpoint, you do what you're trained to do.
