Amitriptyline...is this usual?

Ok, so I have read the adjectives side effects of it. I've taken the red little pill of 50 GM probably like 3 times at hours of darkness to help me sleep....but when I try getting up the subsequent morning , I can't. It feels approaching the gravity is pulling me to the bed..to the point I can't even raise my legs or arms I grain so heavy and my muscles surface way too relaxed. (Kind of a "drunk" feeling) Anyone feel like this at the naissance of taking this medication or should my dosage be lowered?

Answers:    This is not a sleeping pill. You need to gossip to your doctor about dosing.
You're taking too dignified a dose. That's the typical result of taking too much amitryptiline.

As the previous answerer noted, amitryptiline is not classified as a sleeping pill (the technical entitle of a sleeping pill is a hypnotic or a soporific). It is an antidepressant.

However, amitryptiline must be taken at a dosage in the variety of 150 - 300 mg day to treat depression, which cause too many side effects, so it is on the odd occasion prescribed as an antidepressant.

One of the commonest side effects, even at doses far too low for it to have an antidepressant effect, is sleepiness (somnolence). Because it is a relatively safe and sound and inexpensive medication with no invective potential, it is frequently used to induce sleep at nighttime. I prescribe it myself quite frequently for merely that reason.

However, I start my patients at 10 mg, and awfully rarely use more than 25 mg. If the forgiving awakens feeling drugged, they are any taking too much or they are taking it too late.
Elavil is the trade mark and it is classify as a antidepressant, It is an old one classify as TCA
Tricyclic antidepressant

As a pharmacist I see more common dose of 10-50mg although 150mg / year is not unheard off.

side effect is sedation (which u r using it tx some of your insomnia)
other side efx are anti "Slud" salivation, lacrimation urination and defecation Dries your body up.
blur phantasm
potential black box warning of increase depression , suicidal thoughts
lower threshold for seizure
and more

In regards to your dosage, Discuss it near your dr and ask if you can reduce the dose or switch the dose (this can be done over the phone)

good luck
As a personage has as within the past taken amitriptyline, I can report to you the doctor possibly needs to adjust your dosage. Too much, for you, can set off you feeling sedated the subsequent morning. I don't take it anymore but remember okay how it would leave me near a morning "hangover".
