Part of human brain which regulates swalloing and vomitting?
Answer:
swallowing is controlled by the swallowing centre whose nucleus is present in the brainstem(lower pons and medulla) in the nucleus ambiguus and the nucleus of tractus solitarius.
vomiting centre are two...the true vomiting centre is excited by chemical signals which is the chemoreceptor trigger zone ot CTZ present in the area postrema in the floor of fourth ventricle in the post part of medulla.
the other vomiting centre is the motor vomiting centre which is activated by irritating signals form the GI tract. this is present as scattered nuerons in the reticular formation of midbrain.
The human hindbrain consists of three parts:
* The medulla oblongata and pons control visceral functions like breathing, heart and blood vessel activity, swallowing, vomiting and digestion; also coordinates large-scale body movements like walking.
* The cerebellum functions in balance and coordination of movement.
The human midbrain together with the hindbrain forms the brainstem.
* The superior and inferior colluculi are areas of the midbrain that function in the visual and auditory systems.
* The reticular formation regulates states of arousal.
