My x rays... show a mild dextroscoliosis of the mid dorsal spine?
Answer:
Continuing where Mr. Quark left off...
About 85% of cases of scoliosis in young people are idiopathic-- that's one of those $20 medical words that means "we don't know what the heck causes it."
If you're young (still growing), your doctor may want to do periodic checks to make sure it doesn't get worse. If it does get worse the doctor may recommend a back brace. In a small number of cases, where scoliosis continues to worsen, surgery may be recommended. Most often this is *not* the case so I would not worry about this unnecessarily, just follow your doctor's recommendations.
Sometimes scoliosis is noted by chance on a chest x-ray. If you are an adult and finished your growth, this is most likely stable and nothing to worry about, but it is always best to discuss your concerns with your physician.
Dextro- means right (levo- means left), scoliosis means curvature, and mid-dorsal means mid back. So, somewhere near the middle of your spine, there is a little bit of curvature over to the right side.
This is a buncha $20 words of medical lingo that in some circumstances might facilitate communication between doctors but in this case simply obfuscates you understanding your own diagnosis. Mild is a terribly ambiguous word, so your best bet to communicate/comprehend the diagnosis is look at the X-ray yourself and show it to other doctors rather than spout that set of words.
I don't know if this is something that is likely to worsen untreated or not. I am not doctor, nor do I play one on television.
