Are here any long permanent status side effects for taking Pepcid AC for the "Asian glow"?
Answers: No, there are no long expressions effects of taking Pepcid AC for the flushing caused by alcohol - but Pepcid oinly covers up the symptoms...it's no cure.
The flushing is cause by an inability to properly metabolize ethanol due to a reduced level of the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase. This enzyme usually breaks down one of the alcohol metabolites known as acetaldehyde.
Pepcid AC is in fact a histamine blocker, and some people (there are no solid studies) think that it reduce the severity of flushing symptoms. However, you will still have impossible to tell apart potentially dangerous level of acetaldehyde in the blood - only just not have the symptoms to dance along with it.
So, if you flush, taking Pepcid AC isn't itself risky, but the acetaldehyde that cause it will still be there.
There are potentially massively serious side-effects from the use of Pepcid AC, they include:
1) Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)
2) Vitamin B12 deficiency (which can produce anemia and permanent divergent neuropathies)
3) Vitamin and Mineral malabsorption (e.g. calcium, zinc, iron, etc.)
So, 'buyer beware'.
Best wishes and good luck.
