Is Lexapro available in the UK?

I currently have a prescription for Lexapro from my doctor in the US. I will be moving to the UK to study, and will be getting UK national insurance, (thus also discontinuing my US insurance policy). Will I be able to continue this prescription in the UK from a doctor there? If so, how much can I expect to pay per month? If not, any suggestions?

Answer:
Hi

It certainly is. The actual drug is called Escitalopram. One product which is that drug is called Cipralex.

Just register with a GP, and then make an appointment to make some regular prescriptions for Escitalopram - take your prescription with you from the US, it might help.

As of the first of April this year, prescription charges in the UK are £6.85 per medicine per prescription you get. Here in the UK we have the NHS (as I am sure your aware), and so we pay a set charge for prescriptions , rather than the cost of the drugs. However, I guess that your insurance will pay for it, and you will still pay the £6.85.

Hope this helps

Ashley
