If you help yourself to Fiber and a Multivitamin, will the fiber block the absorbtion of vitamins?
Answer:
Although fiber actually help the digestion of most nutrients, too much fiber can block the absorption of minerals such as iron, calcium, and zinc. Dietary fiber within unusually large doses, phytates, oxalates and tannins, found contained by plants, can form insoluble complexes with absolute nutrients and render them unabsorbable through the intestinal wall. The nutrients most commonly affected are calcium, iron, zinc, copper, magnesium, protein and vitamin B6.
Fibers such as bran, which provide bulk contained by the diet, do not interfere with nutrient availability.
