Im scared about my back surgery. In past operations i haemorrhaged very severely. How can i ease my mind?

Are you on blood thinner? Do you take a lot of aspirin?
Before you have elective surgery, you need to find out the clotting properties of your blood. Talk to your family doctor about what might be causing this.
Avoid smoking, Vitamin E, aspirin, blood thinner (of course ask your doctor about this if you are on blood thinner) most back patients are on pain medication and you must avoid that and all the rest for two weeks before the surgery.
Your family doctor should be able to help with this. Wine, beer are also to be avoided.
I don't blame you for being worried. You need a blood work up, before the surgery. And some information. Good Luck
I don't know when your surgery is but a friend of mine had to have back surgery too and in the weeks beforehand she took a spoonful of peanut butter every day to help minimize the amount of blood lost during the surgery. The dr was impressed.
I do this myself when I have surgery and I will at times recommend it for others to try if they are not allergic to peanuts.
But as the other poster said talk to your dr too for ideas on other ways that he might think of that could be helpful. I find too that listening to music by some of my favorite artists is very relaxing.
As for the pain medicine if you are on any ask the dr if what you are taking is safe to continue up until you have surgery that you don't be in even more pain leading up to the surgery.
