I had been spotting persistantly for about six months but have had no proper period. My GP prescribed Norethisterone to stop the vaginal bleeding so that I could have a pelvic examination and swaps taken. I had the examination on Thursday. While on Norethisterone I had "period pains" but since I have stopped and my period has started I have had the worst period pain I have ever experienced in my life. I have seen a doctor and she basically said that I had Norethisterone withdrawal symptoms and to keep taking painkillers and using heat pads. I read the leaflet with any medication that I take and there is no mention of withdrawal pain and heavy bleeding on ceasing this medication. Has anyone ever had withdrawal pains with this medication?

Hi i took these to delay my period whilst on holiday and did not experience any side effects when i came off them, but saying that i am a kidney transplant patient and take lots of other tablets, anti rejection, steriods and others. Not much help i know but i suffer from flooding anyway so I wouldn't know any difference. If it continues i would go back and see your gp.
