What is a polyp?
I have got to go and have a general anaesetic next week to have it removed, it is then sent for a biopsy, which apparently is standard proceedure.
I am now worried sick, can these polyps be cancerous?

A polyp is an abnormally projecting growth of mucous membrane, somewhat similar to a wart or skin tag.
A uterine polyp is a rather common growth within the uterine cavity. It is usually not cancer, but may lead to abnormal bleeding. Typically it is detected by gynecologic ultrasonography or sonohysterography. It can be removed through surgery (hysterectomy). On a rare occasion, and more so in patients after the menopause a lesion may develop into a cancer.
Although they can happen at any time, uterine polyps most commonly occur in women in their 40s and 50s.
Cysts are more commonly found on the ovary.
