The exact position is not noteworthy for NuvaRing to work and the muscles of your vagina should keep NuvaRing safe and sound in place. Put NuvaRing where on earth it is comfortable for you.
It doesn't matter how it ends up once you enjoy inserted it. Theoretically its supposed to follow the shape of the vaginal canal, but its almost impossible to do that, especially if you use a tampon applicator for insertion, as oodles docs suggest.
