Nuva ring question?

I am switching to the nuva ring and my dr. didn't explain how to use it very clearly. I know it is a month long form of protection but for the first month she made it sound as if I'd have to change it ever week. Is this what I'm supposed to do? Is there an easier way to insert it than to just squeeze it? And does it cause you to gain weight? the depo made me gain over 50 pounds in a six month span and I really cant gain anymore weight or i'll go crazy.

Answer:
The nuva ring is not supposed to cause you to gain weight--your physician should have told you to expect wt. gain with Depo--most women gain AT LEAST 10 pounds--as well as have increased acne and mood swings.
You do NOT have to change the nuvaring every week-not even the first month. You leave it in for 3 calander weeks then take it out for 1 week - so you have a period. You can reinsert the next month's ring if you are still bleeding when the next week comes around. Squeezing it for insertion is the only way I know to put it in-it just takes some getting used to, like anything. It has worked very very well for me as I have very irregular menses. Expect maybe some slight nausea and breast tenderness the first month that you use it. Call your provider if you have any questions about whether or not you are inserting it correctly. Good luck!
you need to call your doc for clarification. usually it stays in for 3 wks and then out for one week. it is not associated with any significant weight gain
The nuva ring is an excellent choice. You only need to go off it for one week out of the month. So, leave it in for however many days, take a 7 day break ( use condoms if you have sex while off of it) and then, replace the ring. No, there is no other way to put it in. you have to make sure it is behind the public bone, so folding in half helps with that. It shouldn't make you gain weight, but remember you are putting estrogen in to your system, so make you do not smoke, get exercises and eat right. Have your weight and blood pressure checked often.
