ok ummmmmm, well i'm 14 and my period are irregular but the timing isn't really a problem, I always feel nautious and i don't know maybe thats normal, but i play basketball and alot of other sports at my school and (this is embarasing!) i've bled through my jeans 3 times!! and well i tried to wear a tampon and but it hurt really really bad! should i suck it up and keep trying to wear one? How old were you when you were able to wear one or does age have nothing to do with it? and also what should i do about feeling nautious, having a headache, and being Very bloated!

Answer:
Don't listen to everyone. My moms a nurse and has been lecturing me on this forever. The place when the fluid comes out is the hem and some peoples are larger and some peoples are smaller and sometimes the hem can be too small to get a tampon in
You're inserting it wrong, probley. Follow the directions in the box. If it hurts, pull it out and try again...Or you could try pads, thicker that what you're wearing currently. Try chaomile tea to help with the bloating. I'm 2 years younger than you and I can wear one, so you shouldn't have a problem with age.
Use midol for the discomfort. I started using tampons when I was about your age. It is painful the first few tries but it gets easier and less painful. I remember getting nauseous and even throwing up two times when I was about 15, I didn't happen every month though. Talk to your doctor, he may recommend a medication to help you with that.
Your age really has nothing to do with being able to wear a tampon. Usually the first time you use one it's uncomfortable but it goes away and you completely forget it's there. Considering you said it hurt really bad I'm thinking you may want to try a smaller size (junior sized are good - made by tampax), or perhaps you aren't getting it in far enough - try plastic applicators instead of cardboard if you need to. As for the headaches and stuff, motrin will help with your headache as would tylenol, but considering your natious and bloated I would try Pamprin or Midol. Good Luck.
I'm gonna tell what my gynecologist told me. Really, what you can do is go on hormone pills a.k.a birth control. I used to have heavy periods on the second day and periods would last about 5 days. The first of my periods I would be bloated, have severe HORRIBLE cramps, I would get fevers, I would throw up, get nauseated, chills, sooo many things I felt I was dying and I could NOT get outta bed. I am SO glad im taking birth control because my periods last only about 2 days and I have verry much less cramps and I bleed very light. Just think about being able to control your period. Also, you know when you're period is gonna come. If you have a special event or something when you period is gonna come, you can skip on to the next packet and your period won't come.
Other than that, well just take midol I guess for bloating. And if the tampon is hurting you then you are not inserting it in correctly or maybe it not too far in.
Go to ur parents!
All of these symptoms are normal. (bloating, nausea, cramping, back pain, headaches) You might need to take something for the pain and bloating. Midol is supposed to help with those problems, but it didn't for me. I had to see a Doctor about a prescription because my pain was severe. The decision on the tampon usage is up to you. I didn't start until i was eighteen, but girls start using them much younger. You might have to try it several times before you will get it right, but continue and you will get it. If you don't use them now you might need to change your pad more often.
Your age shouldn't matter when it comes to wearing a tampon, any girl of an age can use one when ever she feels comfortable. Tampons should never hurt if you have the correct absorbency, so maybe you need to try a lower one. Also be sure to carefully read instructions and make sure to correctly insert one, tilting it slightly downward. For more help with tampons try www.beinggirl.com its really helpful! Theirs even a product selecter to help you find the right size/ absorbency. btw I've been wearing one since I was 13, but age is irrelevant!

But if your still feeling uncomfortable wearing tampons, try a pad. They shouldn't leak if you change them often and select the right size /absorbency.

As for your headaches, etc. there are lots of period relief medicine on the market, but aspirin or tylenol works best for me. Try to beat your period at its own game... as soon as you think its about to come, pop a pill. That should ease our pain.

At school always keep a period emergency kit with some necessities: pads, tampons, liners, wipes, 2 pairs of cute underwear, and a piece of gum or chocolate to cheer you up! Stick it in a cute little bag and put it in your locker or backpack and you'll be set.

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

No, if your tampon is hurting you DO NOT just "suck it up". If you're nauseous, headachy, and having very heavy periods you should see a gynocologist. There may be things he/she could suggest to help - anything from taking a low dose birth control pill, to tips on alleviating the bloat and nausea. Chances are there isn't anything clinically "wrong" with you, but yes - many girls have problems using tampons at first. I don't think I used them until I was 16; prior to that they freaked me out and I had a heck of a time putting them in. Though tampons today are NOT what they were even 10 years ago; they've improved a lot. There's no reason why you can't use them; they're not age-specific. But if they bother you, there's no reason to force yourself to be uncomfortable. Some women never use them. It's no big deal!

Anyway, talk to your parents about going to see the gynocologist. It's a great time to start taking care of your female-specific health needs, and usually the doctors can really help!
read the directions they give you in the tampon box like five times before you insert it. that helps. and you're probably not getting it all they way in.. stick the barrel (or applicator) in farther.. the gripper thing should be on the outside..and being 14 and having a irregular period is very, very common. it won't become regular until like 3 years afterwards..and use Midol if you can swallow pills. i hear they work really, really well.
