How to pass gas after hysterectomy ??
Answer:
Gas will acumulate in the intestine with immobility...Best treatment, get up and WALK, WALK,...WALK! It's actually a good sign though, it means her intestines weren't traumatized by the abdominal surgery, or the anesthesia, and passing gas is a good sign! BUT, trapped gas is very painful!! We always got our post-op patients up and walking A.S.A.P.!!
Also, pain meds, especially PERCOCET, will further slow down the intestinal motility, and increase the gas,...so, if the pain is tolerable,...let up on the pain meds, unless it is too painful to walk without them.If this is the case, take a pain med, BUT, promise yourself as a reward for less pain. that you will walk to the kitchen and back!! IT WORKS!
I had a hysterectomy in 1998 at the age of 27 due to "Dermoid Cysts " on my ovaries. I know the pain of the bloating! The only thing that I found to help me with the bloating was Mylicon drops. They are for babies but they worked GREAT ! They don't taste bad at all and they produce immediate results !! Good Luck and I wish your MOM a SPEEDY RECOVERY ! ( The active ingredient is simethicone)
If your mom is taking pain medications she could be dealing with constipation and therefore will not be able to pass the gas until she has a bowel movement. I am still in recovery after having a hysterectomy at age 31 and my bowel actually became impacted from taking pain medications. (Vicadin)...My doctor advised me to take Milk of Magnesia...by taking this your mom should be able to clear any blockage holding in the gas and she will feel so much better!!
