Moms that smoke...?

i know its bad and i already feel guilty but i started smoking again when my son stopped breastfeeding. i had quit for 10 months!! And i was so proud of myself but in a moment of weakness (an argument with my husband) i started again - i dont smoke nearly as much as i did and i am working on quitting asap but the guilt seems to make it harder. i know it sounds weird lol! I would like some support from other mothers who smoke and are trying to quit. Just so i know im not the only one and that im not a horrible mother!! Also my husband smokes so its hard to quit!! I know *no excuses* but for those of you who dont smoke you dont realize how hard it is to quit-for good! Help please!

Answer:
Ok dont put yourself through the guilt and bad mom thing. I have soo been there done that. And honestly until you can come to a place in yourself to quit you arent gonna.
I had a peds dr tell me once it tok her 12 times about 3 or 4 mths each to finally kick it
People go to rehab for alcohol and drugs but dont realize smoking is as much a addiction as those.
SO all i can tell you is maybe get your husband to quit with you. Make it a partnership and the money you save put into a fund for something "big" at the end like a vacation or big screen tv.
But as for your son just do what is best for him. Dont let anyone smoke in your home (and as i have had the fight with my husband stnading in the doorway so you can see the tv does not count. Oh and the bathroom with the exhaust fan is pointless also. ) Also try not to smoke in the car with him either. This way you are keeping it away from him as much as possible.
You will find when it is raining outside and you can only smoke by going out there it is not near as appealing.
That or take up a hobby or excescise routine like my thing was if i went out side to smoke i had to ride the stationary bike the whole time. Ok i flopped but it worked for awhile. :-) You can email me if you want to anytime. :-)
my parents whent to a hipmotist.. and they stop smoking for 7 YEARS! bu then are stupid nieghboor peer pressured then to smoke again.. i wish they never did.
my mom and dad smoke and i really dont like it but they are quiting partners(whatever that is) and they have the gum and the patches and when they get stressed and want one sometimes thell go on the computer and write why they want one or just what happend today
im a smoker too but i dont do it anywhere near my daughter. i know its hard honestly i havent tried quiting but i know ill have too eventually im not a daily smoker though i can last days , weeks not smoking if i dont feel like it so thats why im not so worried about quiting since i know i dont have too smoke daily or weekly
I don't smoke and never have, but my daughter, daughter-in-law, sons and ex-husband have all been addicted. I have seen firsthand how difficult quitting for good is. Please, until you are able to do that, don't allow any smoking in the house, car or near the baby. It can ruin his lungs. I know because I lived with a smoker for 20 years (ex-husband) who smoked in the house and in the car. Now I have a chronic lung condition attributable to that second hand smoke. My ex-husband is dying of emphysema. Seeing him struggle for every breath was enough to make my daughter-in-law quit for good. My daughter quit too, but is back smoking again. My son has quit, but he has quit three times before so you never know. But with his wife not smoking maybe this time it will be for good. My other son quit a long time ago when he found a girlfriend who is a non-smoker. If you live in the west most people here are trying to quit if they smoke. If you live in the east that is not so. You want to do it; that is the first step. You will be successful eventually. Good luck.
I know it is very hard to quit smoking. I am a mother and i am also pregnant. When i was found out i was pregnant with my second child i had almost quit when i had some problems. My husband smokes too. Like you said there are no excuses but i agree that it is very hard.
yup...i did it too! so did my girlfriend. we all seem to fall back into that if we smoked before. it's ok though, i remember feeling the way you do. i don't smoke in the car with my daughter or in the house, strictly outside only. don't be so hard on your self if you are trying then good for you! atleast you are ya know? anyway, it's very stressful being a parent and i know lots of other ways to relieve stress but im not one to do those things. so i've added regular exersice into my weekly routine and it seems to help fight the craving. also try to keep yourself as busy as possible. i smoke probably about 1 pack every 3 days...so im getting there...but the stress is the big issue. keep at it! good luck!! =)
