PCOS and METFORMIN??

I am experiencing infertility, my husband and i have been trying for a baby now for a little over a year with no luck, i decided to go and see an infertility specialist whom after two visits diagnosed me with PCOS.
I thought it wasn't possible i had no symptoms other than the infertility and absense of periods.. But i did, he had done some blood tests which revealed that i have elevated testosterone levels and high estrogen, everything else was great meaning my LH, FSH, Glucose was good, He told me he would like to put me on Metformin, i heard it can restore ovulation and improve chances of conception, possibly decrease my chances of having miscarriages (have had 3 losses so far, all in between 3-5 months along)..Anyways he told me he wanted to do an HSG and a Hysteroscopy befor going ahead with the medication, the only problem is i cannot afford those procedures at the moment..I know you can get metformin online but when and how should i use it? when in my cycles? please help!

Answer:
I have PCOS and my doctor prescribed metformin to me as well. I started out taking 1 tablet 500mg a day for a week then upping it to twice a day the second week. Its pretty hard on your stomach so I suggest the XR version. As for the tests you have to be honest with the doctor and tell him that you can't afford it. I didn't have any other tests aside from bloodwork when I was put on it. At the end of July my doctor is combining clomid and metformin since we are trying to conceive
how should you use it? As prescribed by the doc. every day. You have hormones fluctuating every day...so you need to take it every day. Plus...it's something you build up the dose on...so only taking it certain times isn't probably a good idea.

I hope it works for you. MET SUCKED for me so I stopped and am having great results with a naturopathic doctor now.

This was the first place I learned from others. thousands of women with PCOS..and it effects us all differently... www.soulcysters.net
