Your thoughts on "preventative mastectomy?"?

Hey all, of late curious to know what you think on this issue:

There is research that shows if a personality tests positive for the breast cancer genes (called "BRCA1" and "BRCA2") and undergo a mastectomy as a preventative measure, their risk of certainly developing breast cancer decreases significantly. (Here is a knit to an article about it: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/prophyl...

I hold never personally particular anyone who has done this, so I needed to seek your evaluation - is this a controversial issue at all? What do you surmise? Good idea, or too sweeping?

Thanks for your input!

Answer:
Personally, I think its too innovative. But, I do commend women who are not so obsessed over their breasts that they will put themselves surrounded by danger of late to feel "feminine". Fortunately, if you are aware of your situation, it may sort it easier to catch any breast change in its precipitate stage, should a woman decide to preserve her breasts.

I don't believe that having the breast cancer gene is a demise sentence. You may be more likely than other women to obtain breast cancer. Unfortunately, there are other cancer (like pancreatic cancer) that is much more fatal, but there are no preventative measures that can be taken. Besides, who know, you might prevent one cancer only to shutting down up with another.

This reminds me of a story of a relations where stomach cancer be common (and lethal) within their family. Majority of the kith and kin members elected to enjoy their stomachs removed. So if you have a strong household history of cancer, and a cancer gene...it would just come across inevitable that you would be at a higher risk of getting some form of cancer no concern what you have removed.
It's controversial and a extraordinarily personal decision. I THINK I'd elect for the preventive mastectomy. Being around to monitor my grandchildren grow up seems, at this point anyway, to me to overshadow breasts. On the other hand, I don't dream up any of us can really be sure what we'd do until faced beside the situation.
I think its really great that science can detect those sort of things to bestow you more options. I know a woman near breast cancer and supposedly has the description that often get passed on to daughters. So, I personally would not own a preventative mastectomy but I have not be in the situation to examine my mom suffer (and probably die) from that cancer, like the daughters of the woman I know. If I have, I would be more willing to procure the mastectomy. To me, breasts equal femininity. I know alot of people who disagree next to me. But I would need for near to actually be cancer, not a moment ago a chance of it, formerly I chose to have a mastectomy.
