If you don't already use them I recommend starting a few days your event--assuming your interval doesn't start the same time you plan to be out in the water--just so you can draw from used to putting it in.
However, one point I disagree with from a previous poster is that you should push it far within. That will actually lessen it's usefulness because it could get caught lower than part of your uterus, which won't do reduce to rubble to you in anyway but it can't outstandingly absorb if it's tucked below something and that is in actual fact one of the main reason tampon users experience leakage.
Put contained by a new one past going in the marine and change it shortly after getting out and you will be fine.
