Hi, I started on synthroid 25mg back in march I lost 22 lbs but after 3 months I started getting really irritable specially with my husband and kids everthing they did annoyed me and at some point of the day I felt a little weird like out of it. So my triplets 5th b-day came around June 5 and I stopped taking it to calm down from my grauchiness for their party and the next thing I know it's been 1 month I actually felt a little scared at the end of the medication. I felt everything in this world upset me I would get myself worked up for any little thing and I was affraid to get my blood pressure up to the point I would have a stroke or something, since synthroid have bad side affects my ears sometimes would ring, do you think the way I felt was part of a side affect thats normal to a point? Should I start again? It did help me lose alot of weight something I have been trying since I had my triplets and nothing I would do would get reid of my weight. Would something bad happen to me?

I suppose all drugs have some side affects. However, synthroid is not psychotrophic. It is used to regulate hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid. This can effect mood, but it should be a positive swing, not a negative one. You are on a relatively low dose. I would not advise adjusting this medication without a doctor's assistance. I've been on the generic equivalent of synthyroid for some years to regulate my low thyroid condition. Sensitivity to heat and cold, growth, and many other systems in the body are controlled by the thyroid glands. Although mood swings can be attributed to low thyroid production, it should not be so significant on such a low dosage. I have never heard that grouchiness is a side affect of taking this medication. Talk with your doctor about your symptoms that could be signifying some other condition.
