Take a melt shower, turn down the lights and prepare your body for bedtime. Also I keep a solitare team game next to my bed. As I lay surrounded by bed, the game distracts my mind so that I am not thinking of adjectives the things that I need to do and soon, I am tired.
I find that I am physically but not mentally tired at darkness. So I keep a book by my bed, and read myself to sleep. Nothing too engrossing or exciting, only something that catches my fancy.
