What does it mean to Over-pronate?
Answer:
Over-pronate means your feet are severely mis-aligned when you run. Picture standing straight up with your heels and big toes touching, both feet pointing straight ahead. This is "0" pronation.
Now keeping your heels touching seperate the front of your feet causing your toes to point outwards, away from each other. This is forming a "V" between your feet. This is pronation. The wider the "V" at the top, the more severe the pronation.
When you walk or run your feet are not pointing straight ahead but out towards the outside. This is a very inefficient way to run (imagine trying to run in swim fins) and causes severe pain and damage all the way up to the middle back.
See a podiatrist. You probably need pretty substantial arch supports. You could try to find some "orthodic" supports at Wal-mart or a big drug store. Those wimpy, all gel or foam ones won't do.
The right ones will say "orthodic" on them, have a rigid plasyic bottom and cost between $25-$35. Try www.thearchsupport.com But you should really see a doctor.
