Chemicals released after a break-up?

I just had a bad break-up and I'm wondering what causes the sudden shock and numbness in the body. Is there a chemical that's released? How can I alleviate the emotional pain I'm in?

Answer:
more than one chemical. they're there to general help the body cope after a shock. emotional pain is decreased by none other than time. it can be sped up by moving on as quick as possible. (this doesn't mean getting with the next available person). hang with your friends, go out, meet people, heal. if you segregate yourself or idealize them then you're screwed in the long term.

i'm speaking from experience on the last bit.
