I enjoy bifocals and when I read I look up instead of down to read a book.Is that typical??

Yes, that's what bifocals are for. The bottom half is expected for close reading. The top for long distance sight.
No you requirement to hold the book so you are looking down through the bifocal portion of your glasses. If you can't numeral this out then jump back and own the optician help you.
