Question about Pepto Bismol and a 8 year old?

Why is it that they tell us not to give children under 12 Pepto Bismol? I don't understand why I can give my 8 year old daughter some adult medicines but she isn't supposed to have Pepto. Can someone explain this to me??

Answer:
There are probably ingredients in pepto that might be harmful to a youngster. The makers are just covering their butts because of so many parents not being careful about what they give their children and the children having serious to deadly reactions to the medicine. Pepto is pretty strong and effective for most adults and the younger body is just too tender to have that stuff going through the liver and intestines. You could call and ask your pharmacist if he can recommend the child version of medicine that would help like pepto...he might even recommend a smaller dose of the same...cheap way to get a straight answer with some authority behind it.
