Cracking heels, effective home remedies please...?
Answer:
I agree with the Vaseline and cotton socks (sleeping in them is great if you can sleep in socks) Put on a heavy coating of Vaseline or I like Gold bond Triple action Foot Cream.
Also this can be done during the day put on a heavy application and cover your feet with plastic bags or cling wrap. Then submerge feet in warm water or use a heating pad. The heat will open pores allowing the moisturizer to penetrate the skin.
Try going in socks and shoes (or at least wear hose) for the next few days and avoid bare feet and sandals with bare feet until your heels have healed. (no pun intended). To keep feet protected.
Best of luck to you!
try bag balm. its made for cow udders but it works miracles. you can probably find it at a hardware store or feed mill if you have one. it will be in a little green tin or something similar.
Use moisturizing anti-chap cream esp after washing your feet/bathing/swimming. Try paraffin. Wear socks when walking at home and slippers or shoes outdoor.
I put vaseline on mine, wear white socks. Works best if you do this when you go to bed.
The usual cause of that is dehydration. Rub your feet down with moisturizer, and put plastic bags on them for a few hours. Do this daily. I find it easiest to do this after dinner when I'm sitting around zoning out.
Also, start drinking a lot more water, and wear socks as often as possible.
Soak them in warm water and wash them down good to remove as much dead skin as possible. Rub your heels and/or feet thoroughly with Crisco shortening. Put on socks and wear them to bed too. Do this every night and within a week they should be good and smooth and moist. You have to keep at them though, or they will just get dried and cracked again.
You can give yourself a pedicure in water as hot as you can stand, be sure to apply products that moisturize. Make sure you use a pumice stone on the rough areas. Then give yourself a paraffin wax treatment this feels great and softens the skin. Lastly, when going to bed at night about four times per week apply a heavy cream or petroleum jelly to your feet and wear socks to bed. Foot care is year round; You have to do something to your feet monthly.
I am assuming that you are young, because everyone that I know has had this problem since their early 20's. Mostly because of wearing open heel shoes. There is no way to stop it from happening, but you can keep it in control. I bought a heel scrapper made by tweezerman that works great. In the shower once your heels are softened, you simply rub it along your heels. There are pumice stones you can buy at the pharmacy for cheap, but this one has worked the best for me. Do it a couple of times a week, and lotion your feet everyday...for the rest of your life!
I had this happen, and the things I came up with were the following: I was on a prescription medication, and I think it may have caused some sort of nutritional imbalance. Also, if you may have any sort of fungal infection such as candida albicans, this can cause things like this. Do you have anything else going on with your skin, in any other areas? Look candida up online and see if you see any connection. In addition to any remedies for this, you also might try taking a multivitamin.
