What does a Cholesterol test result of 3.6 mean?

I've had the result of a cholesterol test back today and it was 3.6 - apparently anywhere between 3 and 5.5 would be OK (for a female). I can't see on the internet what these numbers refer to though - it all refers to readings over 100?

Can anyone shed any light on what these numbers are?

Answer:
Nothing to worry about. Your cholesterol is within a healthy range. Anything over 5.5 is within an unhealthy range.
That is ok...
Your cholesterol level is good.

The higher the number higher the chance of you having an heart attack. It's fat deposited in the blood.
Yeah, I think you've gotten something mixed up. Cholesterol readings always run to three digits, or at the very least 2, like in the eighties or nineties. Triglycerides also run in 2 to 3 digit values.

Just as a guess, that range looks like possibly a thyroid level of some kind, although I'm not positive about that.

But then, there are always new tests out, and it wouldn't surprise me if they've got some kind of cholesterol/triglyceride ratio that might fall in that range. Best thing is to ask your doctor.
Hi.3.6 is a good reading anything over 5 needs attention. max is 10 and if you have that you are in serious trouble and a radical change in your way of life. and the numbers refer to the amount of cholesterol in your blood stream
yes those numbers are the cholesterol/ HDL Ratio. They just take your total cholesterol and your good cholesterol or HDL and get a ratio and your sounds very good! Congrats! hehe...Anyways that ratio is nice and all, but it is nice to know the actual numbers of total cholesterol and HDL and LDL (which is bad cholesterol) and your triglycerides to see the bigger picture. That should all be on the lab paper. Take care!
3.6 is fab! wish mine was that low! i have hereditory raised cholestrol which sits around 7.4-9.5 and i am toiing to keep it under control. You will be fine just take advise from your GP re: restricted foods.
I got high cholesterol 275. If you in US, you will familiar with that number. I did medical check up in Jakarta and found lower number.
3.6 mean 3.6mmol/L (~140 mg/dL) . It is just measurement unit.

To convert mmol/l of HDL or LDL cholesterol to mg/dl, multiply by 39.
