Why do i get sleepy after i eat?

lately, after i eat i get really sleepy. does any one know why. or is there even any correlation between them?

thanks. :)

Answer:
I believe that it is because your body uses more of its available energy to break down the food it just took in.

Also, I heard somewhere that certain foods have these chemicals that relax your body and make you feel tired.
i heard it has to do with blood rushing to your digestive system to break down the food you just ate. if you over eat or just eat a lot, i would guess it works even harder, making you feel tired...
I think it is because much of your blood go to your stomach and intestine after eating so the rest of your body need to be relax. You do not have many energy of you are using it all processing the food!!
When you eat your stomach and intestines get ready for churning and moving the food. When your stomach takes on food it starts churning, and mixing the food while pumping acids.
Now, this takes a lot of energy so it makes u sleepy pretty much...Walking multiples the rate of digestion a couple fold.
Also when u eat and swim u are using too much energy from swimming and digesting so u get cramps due to shortage of oxygen. I hope this helps..
This is generally caused by a variety of related factors. In general, after eating a meal, blood is diverted to the gut to aid in the digestion process (i.e. delivery of various proteins/enzymes, energy sources, oxygen, etc.). As a result, these blood and nutrients are not available to nourish the remainder of the body to the same extent as before. When the food has been digested, this diversion of blood can cease, and you will eventually no longer feel as tired. Additionally, a spike in the concentration of enzymes like insulin can cause a reduction in blood sugar (by storing away glucose). Finally, the type of food that is consumed can play a big role in its metabolism in the body. For example, foods rich in carbohydrates will be digested quickly, resulting in a quicker potential spike in insulin (which can cause the tiredness when in excess of what's necessary). Alcohol can act as a depressant on the nervous system, causing you to feel more tired.
