Why is yawning contagious?

It really seems to be true that if you monitor someone yawn, within moments, you will yawn as very well. Any thoughts?

what i have hear is that when you see someone yawn it triggers your brain to feel similar to it needs more oxygen so you yawn as okay

yawning is not contagious i watched a program in the region of yawning once and its just surrounded by are heads
