I have a very long back and tend to slouch a lot. Is there any tips on how to help straighten my posture?
Thanks!
Answer:
My father used to have the same problem, and he had his then wife put a piece of tape down his spine, so when he tried to slouch it pulled at the tape and was a physical reminder to straighten up.
I have kind of the same problem, i just sit up straight a little at a time to get used to it. I pull my shoulders back, and it looks alot better.
I have a strange contraption that goes around my knees and around my back, like a belt, and it forces the lower back to curve and gives good posture. So if you are sitting in a chair with your feet on the ground, you can try putting something like a thick belt around your knees and around your lower back, your knees helping keep your back in place...only thing is it only really works at home, unless you want to bring it around with you!
Wear a back support, it will remind you to stand straight
Strengthen your "core"- your abs and, if you can, your back muscles. Pilates really does this well- Ive been doing it for 1/2 hr per day for just a few days, and already feel how my posture has improved! Or you could just do a variety of crunches- pretty much the same effect. Also, be proud to be tall, hold your chin up and feel your spine lengthening, and walk with your eyes looking ahead towards the horizon. You could work on stretching your back, too, but thats not such a big deal (just twisting, touching toes w/ your chin tucked, backbends if you can do them).
Good luck :)
try pushing your pelvis forward as you're touching your shoulderblaes together. also tuck in your chin and push your neck back. combine these into circuits and do reps and sets to condition your body into accepting this as your natural posture.
Oh, and stretching. lots and lots of stretching.
